Grande Albergo Miramare was founded in 1947, but its history has much deeper roots having been the summer residence of the Italian Savoy Royal Family.
The hotel retains the original structure, although skillfully renovated. It is arranged in six classic style villas, surrounded by the green of the Mediterranean Maquis with its unique view of the Gulf of Gaeta.
The main building, Villa Anna, was the private apartment of Queen Helen and now it is the imperial suite of the hotel. It keeps intact the ancient furniture and the large wrought iron chandelier belonged to the Savoy Royal Family.
Family vacation, business meetings, romantic getaway, whatever the kind of stay is, "Miramare" is always the ideal location.
All the rooms have the elegance of Venetian style furniture and are equipped with every possible comfort. However, each room is unique, decorated with original classy furnishings with soft and soothing colors. Balconies and terraces offer stunning views overlooking the Gulf of Gaeta.
With its 80 years of life, Grand Hotel Miramare is a piece of Italian history of hospitality and made in Italy tourism.
The best raw materials, the passion for haute cuisine and a tradition cultivated over and over the years, in one word: excellence. Our style of service could be defined as innovative, Mediterranean. In the romantic halls of the Restaurant, where you can breathe genuine harmony between environment and staff, guests are surrounded by courtesy and attention.
Each dish, served at the table, is the result of the careful selection of suppliers and craftsmanship. In fact, having our own pasta and pastry laboratory, we could offer our customers a unique gastronomic journey, superbly told by Chefs and Maitres Patissiers of high rank.
In 1947 Maestro Angelo Celletti took Grand Hotel Miramare and with his passion for the job created a truly excellent review with tremendous results of high level tourism in Formia, attracting the Russian market.
The same "Angel(o)" was the first owner of the wonderful gardens of the Queen sites located at the sport center, now called "CONI" which stands right in front of "Miramare". After the selling of the Center he always actively participated in its expansion, to give space to the development of tourism and sport in Formia.
There, in fact, a lot of famous athletes stayed to train for a long long time, including Russians Athletes, creating a lively outlet for the town of Formia too.
Angelo personally accepted and followed those Russians Athletes, hosting them in his famous Restaurant. He has also improved his knowledge of their Tutors creating attention and assiduous attendance of the Russian tourist market.
Today we could admire his incredible results.
Having the trust of Italian well-known Gentlemen Prati, "nobles of the Savoy Royal Family", Angelo wisely achieved his goal.
Thanks to his incredible credit for tourist hospitality, the IPSSAR (Institute for Hotel Services and Catering) in Formia has now his name "ANGELO CELLETTI".
Starting from this Institute, a lot of highly prepared boys and girls carried out stages at Miramare Grand Hotel, improving their skills, and getting, the most deserving ones, the chance of a real working contract.
In the following years, Grand Hotel Miramare hosted well-known personalities who shaped the history of the Twentieth Century, in politics, sports, entertainment and lifestyle.
Some names: Alcide De Gasperi, Luigi Einaudi, King Farouk, King Albert II of Belgium, Prince Amedeo of Savoy, Giulio Andreotti, Maurizio Scelba, Achille Lauro, Carlo Prati, Primo Nebiolo, Bruno Zauli, Richard Burton, Liz Taylor, Marcello Mastroianni, Alberto Sordi, Nino Manfredi, Anthony Quinn, Silvana Mangano, Gina Lollobrigida, Wanda Osiris, Walt Disney, Totò, Sara Simeoni, Pietro Mennea, Lucio Dalla, Pino Daniele, Roberto Cavalli, etc.
Angelo Celletti's "savoir faire" and his strong passion for work also led to the birth of other well-known hotels in Formia and Gaeta: Miramare Castle, Grand Hotel Fagiano Palace, Grand Hotel Il Ninfeo.
This well-known tourist activity was successfully continued by his son Antonio Celletti, always keeping an excellent working and business friendship with Russia and its wonderful people, and by Antonio's children: Annangelica, Giuliana and Angelo Celletti.
